Armed with a first class degree in Journalism from Falmouth University I left my home county of Cornwall for the bright lights of London. Here I began my career as picture editor at Wanderlust travel magazine before becoming assistant editor at Boat International magazine. A move to Bristol saw me enter the freelance world, where for the past decade I’ve worked as a writer, photographer and picture editor (BBC Countryfile magazine, 2009-11; BBC Focus iPad 2011-present), while also contributing my skills and experience as development manager of WildPhotos (2008-11) and as a judge for the international Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (2008-09).
Now based in North Devon I write for various publications and organisations, including BBC Countryfile, The Simple Things, Waterfront (Canal and River Trust), National Trust, Devon Life, Wild Travel, Photography Monthly and Turning Pro. Skilled at writing about and photographing a range of subjects, my areas of expertise fit neatly under the umbrella of ‘outdoor lifestyle’: travel, cycling, walking, nature and photography.
Alongside my freelance work I lecture part-time at Exeter College on the BTEC Print Based Media course and on the UAL Journalism and Social Media programme.
In 2016 I was selected as an Ordnance Survey #GetOutside Champion to help inspire more people in the UK to spend time outdoors. You can find out more about the fantastic #GetOutside campaign here.
