Armed with a first class degree in Journalism from Falmouth University I left my home county of Cornwall for the bright lights of London. Here I began my career as picture editor at Wanderlust travel magazine before becoming assistant editor at Boat International magazine. A move to Bristol saw me enter the freelance world, where for the past decade I’ve worked as a writer, photographer and picture editor (BBC Countryfile magazine, 2009-11; BBC Focus iPad 2011-present), while also contributing my skills and experience as development manager of WildPhotos (2008-11) and as a judge for the international Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (2008-09).
Now based in North Devon I write for various publications, including BBC Countryfile, Wild Travel, Photography Monthly and Turning Pro. Skilled at writing about and photographing a range of subjects, my areas of expertise fit neatly under the umbrella of ‘outdoor lifestyle’: travel, cycling, walking, nature and photography.
Alongside my freelance work I lecture part-time at Exeter College on the BTEC Print Based Media course (16-19 year olds) and on the Journalism and Practical Media foundation degree course.
In 2016 I was selected as an Ordnance Survey #GetOutside Champion to help inspire more people in the UK to spend time outdoors. You can find out more about the fantastic #GetOutside campaign here.
