With its wonderfully varied landscape where the moor dramatically meets the sea, Exmoor is a walker’s paradise. For those seeking a healthy dose of fresh air and some peace and tranquillity it’s the perfect destination for a slow-paced adventure, which is exactly what I decided to do on a blustery but beautiful day in late summer.
This circular coastal walk includes all the tasty ingredients that make this part of Exmoor so unique – wild, expansive moorland where free-living native Exmoor ponies roam; steep-sided wooded valleys with cascading rivers and waterfalls; and a rugged coastline with high cliffs, hidden coves and secluded beaches – but it is definitely best served on a clear day so you can fully appreciate the stunning views.
